BDL Residency 2026: H.E. Morris, Gaia Ozwyn & Lawrence Perry

H. E. Morris completed her PhD in Fine Art at Newcastle University in 2025, after receiving a MA from Goldsmiths in Contemporary Art Theory, a MFA from the University of Iowa in Painting and Drawing, and a BA from Hampshire College. Morris was a fellow at the Fine Arts Work Center in Provincetown, MA in 2019, and a Soho Revue Artist in Residence in 2023. Her practice is interested in working through a place of emotion to search for a truth. Structuring her paintings through memory, she explores the temporalities of narrative in order to test a notion of time that splits between working through absence and presence. Morris’s work can also be found in the collection of the Green Family Art Foundation, Dallas, TX, US; and in Museu Inimá de Paula, Brasil.

Gaia Ozwyn is a Caribbean-British artist, who completed an MA in Painting at the Royal College of Art in 2024, supported by the Sir Frank Bowling Scholarship. Originally trained as a biomedical scientist and in Medicine, she spent several years working as a doctor in the NHS before committing to a full-time painting practice. Ozwyn’s work explores transitional spaces – borderlands and peripheries – as sites of tension, transformation, and truth. Rooted in the shared experience of inhabiting a corporeal and shifting world, the paintings reflect a dynamic interplay between material presence and transience. In 2025, Ozwyn was selected for the RCA BLK x Yinka Shonibare Foundation residency, held at the G.A.S. Foundation in Lagos, Nigeria.

Lawrence Perry (b. 1999, Singapore) graduated from The Slade School of Fine Art in 2021 and lives and works in London. His paintings bring together historical imagery, contemporary life and the language of photography to create psychologically charged scenes that hover between the familiar and the uncanny. Drawing on mythology, literature, film, fashion and art history, Perry constructs theatrical encounters in which figures appear caught between moments of intimacy, anticipation, ecstasy and unease.

Perry is interested in the emotional life of images and the ways in which memory alters them. Working from staged photographs, he deliberately introduces the visual characteristics of analogue photography—including blur, grain, blown highlights and lens effects—into meticulously painted surfaces. His paintings explore nostalgia as both a longing for the past and an attempt to preserve experiences that are already disappearing. Recent exhibitions include Careless Rapture at LBF Contemporary, London (2026), They Shoot Horses, Don’t They? at LBF Contemporary (2025), and After the Past at /THE PLATFORM, Antwerp (2023). His work has also featured in The Face, British GQ and Gucci’s A/W 2020 campaign.
