Born 1995, Prague
Lives and works in London, UK
Anastazie Anderson is a Czech-British painter living and working in London. She completed a BA in Fine Art at Falmouth University before pursuing a Master's program in Painting at the Royal College of Art, for which she was awarded the Bakala Foundation Scholarship. She has exhibited previously at Berntson Bhattacharjee Gallery, London, and Now Introducing at Studio West, London among others. In March 2024 she has had her first solo exhibition Imitation of Life at YveYang Gallery, New York. Anderson sees her work as part of a new Pop Art, one that acknowledges that today some of our most intimate, authentic experiences are as mass-produced as cans of Coke. She pulls inspiration from home photography to create paintings that instantly connote nostalgic memories of childhood and the past. Her paintings act as a ‘photo album’ depicting the iconography of home photography through flatness, interpolations of colour, naivete and realism in flux. Anderson paints on large-scale canvases to transfer photographs into grand, emotional, and lifelike scenes from a past history.
